In early 2024, we launched our re-designed Lo-Boy hoists, created to improve their overall quality and capacity. This update will also allow for faster lead times and more stock availability for quick-ship opportunities for our customers. We’re answering all your most asked questions about the switch to the new designs and the hoists themselves!

Q: What does the update consist of?

A: The LBS-516 hoist replaced the legacy LB-400, LB-500 and LB-510 hoist in all versions. The LBS-520 hoist (launching soon) will replace the legacy LB-520.

The new LB series conversion hoists will replace the legacy models as follows: LB-B5 replaces the B-5 (Bert), LB-C8 replaces the C-8 (Charlie), LB-D10 replaces the D-9 (Daniel) and D-10 (David), LB-E15 replaces the E-15 (Ernie), LB-F18 replaces the F-18 (Floyd).

The new hoists will be available as a fully-greaseable hoist in various lengths; the semi-greaseless composite bushing versions of the Lo-Boy hoists will be discontinued.

Q: Why did you update the design?

A: We completely re-designed our hoists to bring the customer the highest-performing products we could offer. Through the redesign we were able to improve the overall quality and capacity of the designs. We also found that the new LBS-516 was powerful and versatile enough to replace the LB-400, LB-500, and LB-510, helping reduce distributor inventory.

Q: You mentioned improved quality and capacity. What does that look like?

A: The new hoist designs are proven reliable and have been thoroughly cycle tested and analyzed using our in-house endurance test lab and computer-based FEA. The re-designed hoists offer an increase in lifting capacity that can range from a 7.5% to 14% increase over the prior design (dependent on body length and application). The new LBS 516 has a heavier, 7 gauge subframe in lieu of 10 gauge, making it even stronger.

Q: What about replacement cylinders for the discontinued hoists?

A: Replacement cylinders for the discontinued hoists will still be available going forward.

Q: What is the warranty on these new hoists?

A: The new LBS-516, LBS-520 and LB series conversion hoists will come with Crysteel’s industry leading 5-year warranty.

Q: Where can I find pricing?

A: We sell our products through our nation-wide distributor network. Use our Distributor Locator, which you can find by scrolling to the bottom of our Homepage, to find a distributor near you for pricing information and to purchase. Pricing was emailed to all approved distributors on 1/8/2024. If you did not receive pricing but believe you should have, please email sales@crysteel.com.

Q: What are the benefits of switching to a fully-greasable hoist compared to the discontinued semi-greaseless composite bushing?

A: Fully greaseable hoists are more durable due to the ability to re-grease as needed. These hoists are especially valuable when faced with highly corrosive environments.  Additionally, by standardizing our offering, we can streamline production processes and improve throughput, bringing even more hoists to our customers who need them with faster delivery times.

Q: What is the recommended maintenance for these hoists?

A: Every 100 cycles or every two months, whichever comes first:

  • Grease all hoist and rear hinge grease fittings.
  • Check hardware regularly and re-tighten as needed.
  • Check hydraulic components regularly for any leaks or signs of wear. Replace damaged or leaking components as needed.
  • Change hydraulic oil annually with normal use and working conditions. The breather cap should be cleaned every time the hydraulic oil is changed. With heavy use or very dusty working conditions, the hydraulic oil should be changed more often.
